Alexander Payne’s film Downsizing shares a few ideas with the Johnatan Swift’s novel Guliver’s Travels. The idea may have been inspired by Johnathan Swift’s “Gulliver's travels” one of the earliest anti-utopia books. Though the film doesn’t show an as deep analysis of the contemporary society, as Swift does in his famous series.
Downsizing was initially constructed to ‘save the planet’ from human consumption and overpopulation. However it became a popular practise for the average Midwestern consumer. The process appeals to Paul Safranek and Audrey who struggle to get by and downsizing allows them to ‘live a life of luxury’. Downsizing would help with money aspects of their everyday lives.

Darkest Hour is a 2017 British War film, which was directed by Joe Wright, it is set in May 1940 at the beginning of World War 2. Before that time feminist movements such as the Suffragettes were not strong enough and were weakened with other problems in society such as the economic crisis. Sexuality has been represented in this way in the film due to the fact that in the 1940s this was how people were seen, back then for the most part it was just a normal way of life.
I believe that sexuality aspect in this film was used to connect viewers with the main character on a personal level. For example, the scene where W.Churchill comes out bare out of bathroom. We do not see him naked, but we believe he is because of the reaction of his young typist. This scene, in my opinion, was intentionally constructed in order to present naturalism of the character. As the film progresses, so does his state of nakedness.
Sometimes women were portrayed as the weaker gender, but not necessarily from the main characters, in the lower classes such as the typists all in the same room together, when the man walks in they are all quite giggly in a way that might seem ‘fake’ to the viewer and act rather flirtatious in an unintentional way.
